Plain answers, no fine-print maze

How the tie guide works.

Pulpit & Knot compares the conference look with one selected shopping option. The labels below explain how close the visual match is and whether the site owner has reviewed it.

How match ratings work

Two labels tell two different stories.

The quality label describes visual similarity. The editorial-status label tells you whether the site owner has manually checked the recommendation.

Visual match quality

Exact Product
The same product or variant is confirmed with strong supporting evidence.
Very Close Match
Color, pattern, texture, and width align closely, with only minor differences.
Similar Style
The overall effect works, but the pattern, scale, proportion, or material differs noticeably.
Color Alternative
The palette is useful, while the original pattern or design is not reproduced.

Frequently asked questions

The useful details.

These answers apply throughout the shopper guide and the reviewer worksheet.

What does “Review Pending” mean?

The shopping result has not yet been manually checked by the site owner. It should be treated as a candidate, not a finished editorial recommendation.

What does “Owner-Approved Close Match” mean?

This result was manually reviewed by the website owner and judged to be visually close to the original tie. It is not an endorsement or verification by the person who wore the tie.

Did the Apostle, speaker, or Church approve the match?

No. No editorial-status label represents approval, verification, sponsorship, or endorsement by the person who wore the tie or by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Are these always the exact ties worn?

No. Unless a listing is clearly marked “Exact Product,” it is a visually similar shopping alternative. “Very Close Match,” “Similar Style,” and “Color Alternative” each describe a different level of similarity.

How are matches selected?

The comparison gives the most weight to pattern and pattern spacing, then dominant and secondary colors, tie width and shape, material or texture, and overall visual similarity. A solid tie is not treated as a close match for a patterned tie just because the colors are similar.

Why might a tie remain “Review Pending”?

The guide can contain more candidates than the site owner can immediately inspect in detail. Homepage examples, popular pages, obvious low-confidence results, and newly suggested corrections receive priority.

Can I suggest a better match?

Yes. Use the private correction form to identify the speaker or page, explain what is inaccurate, add a better product link, and note whether you have a screenshot. It creates an email draft and does not post a public review.

Are the shopping links affiliate links?

Some may be. Pulpit & Knot may receive a commission from qualifying purchases without increasing the price you pay. As an Amazon Associate, Pulpit & Knot earns from qualifying purchases.

Can prices or availability change?

Yes. Retailers control their product pages, prices, variants, inventory, and shipping. Review the retailer’s current photos, selected color, price, and availability before purchasing.

A short explanation and one good product link can be more useful than a hundred random search results.
